the perfume i’ve been wearing for 2 years was bought at the perfume souk in dubai so no chance of getting more; i dont even remember its name.

so i went shopping today for a new scent, and nick recommended that we go to a perfumery in union square that i hadnt really noticed before.

it’s run by a married french couple, and they have over 1,000 fragrances. big names, small names, no names; scents you couldnt find in department stores. and andre knows everything about perfume, EVERYTHING! their store was the first dedicated perfumery in the country and has been in san francisco for over 40 years.

he told us stories about the history of perfume companies, history of perfume use during wars, and some history of san francisco. he seems a little abrupt at first, but he is very patient and accommodating, and i decided i would buy something from him within 10 minutes.

i ended up buying a guerlain perfume called champs-elysees. it’s feminine and light, perfect for day or night, just what i was looking for.

it would have been nice to get the eau de parfum, but it’s pricey. eau de parfum has a higher concentration so the scent last longer, maybe 4 hours instead of 2. real perfume, the highest concentration, lasts all day, but it’s $300+ a bottle. andre taught me that :)

  1. I’m not calling you old or anything, but my grandmother has that same parfum as sort of a ‘keepsake’ from my great-grandfather who got that for my great-grandmother while he was in WWII. It does smell really nice, though :)

  2. Guerlain is one of the last perfumers to release top quality perfumes (with Chanel). It has nothing to do with the CK, D&G, etc… stuff that evaporates after 15 mn. Nothing can go wrong with Guerlain.
